Overhead line protection fittings

Overhead line protection fittings are used to protect overhead power lines and their equipment in a number of ways, including:

Reducing vibration

Protective fittings can reduce the vibration of overhead power line wires and lightning protection wires.

Voltage equalization

Protective fittings can equalize the voltage of insulator strings in lines and substations that are above 330kv.

Arc protection

Arc protection devices can protect conductors and network components from overvoltage. These devices are especially important for lines that are vulnerable to overvoltage, such as those in fields, hills, and near buildings.

Lightning protection

Ground wires are a basic method for protecting overhead lines from lightning.

Other types of overhead line equipment

Insulators

Support and separate electrical conductors, preventing current from passing through them. Porcelain is the most common material used for insulators, but glass, steatite, and other materials are also used.

Line supports

Keep power lines suspended above the ground, which reduces safety risks and maximizes power transmission. Poles and towers are the two main types of line supports.
