The spacer damper is a device that is installed in bundled conductors to maintain a fixed distance between each conductor, preventing collisions and reducing vibration caused by the wind. Typically, the spacer damper is installed at a distance of 50-60m in the middle of the span. There are different types of spacer dampers, including two split, four split, six split, and eight split. When compared to bundled conductors without spacer dampers, the two split type reduces vibration amplitude by 50%, while the four split type reduces it by 87% or 90%.
The main technical requirement for spacer damper is that the clamp must have enough grip strength,no looseness in long service and have to bear the centripetal force and fatigue under long - term vibration of split conductors in short circuit.
