There are many differences between OPGW and optical cables, which can be discriminate from structure, performance and application.
Structure:
OPGW: The sum of multiple of metal wires. The outer layer is usually aluminum alloy or steel. It usually contain multiple optical fibers for data transmission.To protect the OPGW wire,we often use Vibration Damper and PVC Bird Flight Diverter.
Optical cable: Composed of optical fiber and protective layer. There is one or layers of High-strength heat-resistant and rust-proof PVC on the outside, containing reinforcing materials to protect the optical fiber.
Performance:
OPGW: The ground wire is divided into working ground and safety ground.It has both power transmission and communication functions, providing lightning protection.But it mainly function is to protect other wire in transmission line.We often use Joint Box and Cable Storage Assembly to match with OPGW.
Optical cable: Its main performance is high-band width, low-loss optical signal transmission. It has power transmission function and requires additional protection measures to prevent wire damage.
Application:
OPGW: Installed on the top of power transmission lines and used for the needs of power systems and communication systems.There are single suspension set for OPGW preformed dead-end for OPGW and double suspension set for OPGW.
Fiber Optic Cables: Widely used in communications networks such as the Internet, telephone and data transmission.
